I was born in Oamaru and raised in rural North Otago. I have been a lawyer for 40 years, first in Oamaru and then in Dunedin for the last 15 years. My current areas of practice are family law (with a particular emphasis on representing children), property law and general practice. I also have considerable experience in local government law.
Mediation (both private and Court referred) now forms an increasing proportion of my practice, and I accept referrals in respect of all types of disputes.
My commercial experience includes Directorships of Trustbank Otago Ltd (Chair from 1989 until 1996) and Whitestone Contracting Ltd. I was an inaugural Trustee of the Otago Community Trust from 1988 until 1998. I was the first President of the Otago District Law Society from outside Dunedin (1999-2000). Other community interests have included Oamaru Whitestone Civic Trust (inaugural Chairperson), President of North Otago and New Zealand Marriage Guidance Council (now Relationship Services) and Rotary (Dunedin East Club). I play bowls for the Balmacewen Club.
I have been married to Lauris for over 40 years and have 3 adult children and three beautiful grandchildren. Lauris and I share interests in gardening, reading and travel, particularly to visit our children in Europe and New York.
